MATT WALAS

Matt is a Connecticut-based visual artist working in photography and graphic design. Matt’s photography has afforded him an award winning career and the ability to do what he loves. His design firm, Common Thread Design + Photography, has given Matt the opportunity to partner with a variety of clients to create professional branding, custom one of a kind pieces for home interiors, bespoke promotional materials and also spending the day with his camera capturing everything from landscapes to family portraits.

Matt’s inspiration for the Coastal Daydream Collection was to capture the ethereal magic of a coastal summer sunrise. The ever-changing vibrancy of color during the golden hour of morning has always captured Matt’s eye. He set out to create this collection for those that also enjoy the quiet and calm of mornings on the beach and the feelings it evokes - tranquility, peace, positive energy, and simple beauty. Although the majority of these images were captured during the summer on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, they're dreamlike quality and fluidity give them a familiarity apart from their specific location. 

Matt studied at Central Connecticut State University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. His background in photography dates back to elementary school where he was fortunate enough to be exposed to the darkroom, developing his own film and making his own prints at an early age. He continued to study and learn photography throughout his high school and college years and could always be found with a camera in hand. Currently Matt works out of his home studio in West Hartford, CT where he owns and operates Common Thread Design + Photography. His work has been exhibited throughout New England.
